Update on General

General had his routine eye appointment on Tuesday. The vet came and gave him some meds and started to put some meds above his eyes so she could do her exam without him feeling her poking and prodding around. A couple minutes after she gave the first medication, his eye started to dart side to side very quickly. The vet asked me to take a look and see if this was something his eye had done before. I took one look and said, "No, he has never done anything like that before. He feels like he might fall when I let go of his head." Not too long after I said that, he started to fall and stagger from side to side. My vet stood there for about 30 more seconds trying to figure out what was wrong. I saw the eye movement and his body, and started to run for the hills. I somehow sensed what was about to happen. General then started to loose all control of his body and started running around the stall trying to regain his balance. He was falling and twitching all around his stall for what seemed like minutes. Shortly after the vet and her assistant went running for the phone and more meds, he fell to the ground and finally stayed down. He seemed completely exhausted and didn't seem to know where he was.

Over the next several hours we concluded that General had started having seizures and was dealing with some type of neurological damage. General is now on anti-seizure medicine and will be starting medicine for a condition called EPM that could be the source of his issues. At this point I wish I had more of an update on what was really going on, but we are all at a loss. Please keep General in your thoughts and prayers as we try to figure out what is going on with him. He is only 14 years old and before this episode he was a really sweet and cuddly horse. It is really hard to see him like this.
