Today was one of those days at work where you just look at your kids and have to ask, "Are you messing with us?"
Second period, one of my kids saw me walk in the room and immediately threw a hand in the air and clicked his fingers at me. I just stared and gave him my best, "Since when is that acceptable" look before cracking up and lecturing him. A period later, I was walking into a classroom to deliver some modified tests, when I notice a group of kids in a circle giggling. I start to wonder if there was a fight or if someone is hurt in the middle of the circle. I get through all the kids and see the same student that made me his "math wench" earlier by clicking his fingers, jumping up and down at one end of the circle. He comes over and tells me that another one of my kids is stuck in a desk. I was quick to say, "Are you messing with me?" I help clear the room out and see my roommate and another student on the floor next to my student who has his feet stuck in the book rack of the desk in front of him. They are trying to twist and turn his feet to get him out of the desk.
So this is what happened...during third period, the kids were taking a quiz. During this quiz, my student realizes his feet are stuck and tries to wiggle free. The girl sitting in front of him feels her desk moving and eventually turns around and asks him to stop. He quietly mentions that his feet are stuck. My roommate was in the classroom and later asks the student if he is really stuck. At this point, she gets down on the floor to figure out what the problem is and another student quickly starts untying his shoes in an effort to help. This is about the point that I walk in and realize what is going on. I start to laugh so much that I am no help. Shortly after I walk in, our principal walks in asks the student the same thing the rest of us said, "Are you messing with us?" He begins to move the student's foot like a Rubik's cube until he eventually freed both feet and the student wobbled to his next class. There is no way that I can do this story justice right now, but it was unbelievably hilarious!
